MER Clinic: Modeling a Granite Quarry
Presented by Rich Newmiller, MMR @ MER Hagerstown 2009
Based on an operating granite quarry in Barre, VT that was photographed in 1995, the author attempts to build a realistic looking quarry model that also doubles as a removable access hatch for layout maintenance. Techniques for reproducing distinctive features such as stone surface textures and drilling marks, derricks, hoist houses, scratch-built equipment and weathering will be described through a series of detailed construction photographs. Many historical pictures of quarry operations in the Barre area will be presented.
